A Robust Nonlinear Filtering Approach to Inverse Halftoning
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new blind inverse halftoning algorithm based on a nonlinear ltering technique of low computational complexity and low memory requirement is proposed in this research. It is called blind since we do not require the knowledge of the halftone kernel. The proposed scheme performs nonlinear ltering in conjunction with edge enhancement to improve the quality of an inverse halftoned image. Distinct features of the proposed approach include eÆciently smoothing halftone patterns in large homogeneous areas, additional edge enhancement capability to recover the edge quality and an excellent PSNR performance with only local integer operations and a small memory bu er.

Inverse halftoning and kernel estimation for error diffusion
Two different approaches in the inverse halftoning of error-diffused images are considered. The first approach uses linear filtering and statistical smoothing that reconstructs a gray-scale image from a given error-diffused image. The second approach can be viewed as a projection operation, where one assumes the error diffusion kernel is known, and finds a gray-scale image that will be halftone...
متن کاملLook-up table (LUT) method for inverse halftoning
In this paper we propose look-up table (LUT) based methods for inverse halftoning of images. The LUT for inverse halftoning is obtained from the histogram gathered from a few sample halftone images and corresponding original images. The method is extremely fast (no filtering is required) and the PSNR and visual image quality achieved is comparable to the best methods known for inverse halftonin...
متن کاملFast ad-hoc inverse halftoning using adaptive filtering
We propose a novel fast inverse halftoning technique using an adaptive spatial varying filtering. The proposed algorithm is significantly simpler than most existing algorithms while achieving a PSNR close to that of the set theoretic POCS.
متن کاملHybrid inverse halftoning using adaptive filtering
We propose a novel fast inverse halftoning technique using a combination of spatial varying filtering and spatial invariant filtering. The proposed algorithm is significantly simpler than most existing algorithms. Without explicit edge region classification, the proposed spatial varying filter is shown to be capable of preserving edges effectively.
متن کاملRecent Advances in Digital Halftoning and Inverse Halftoning Methods
Halftoning is the rendition of continuous-tone pictures on displays, paper or other media that are capable of producing only two levels. In digital halftoning, we perform the gray scale to bilevel conversion digitally using software or hardware. In the last 3 decades, several algorithms have evolved for halftoning. Examples of algorithms include ordered dither, error diffusion, blue noise masks...
